Post 9> My favorite book

When i was in school my literature teacher introduce us to a lot of great authors. One of my favorites is Ángeles Mastretta, she is mexican and wrote two of my favorites books, "Arráncame la Vida" and "Mujeres de Ojos Grandes". I love them for the issues that she describes, about women empowerment and feminism. I think that she really had the talent to show the reality of Mexican and Latin American women, and society in general, with a fierce criticism and inspired us to find ourselves and defeat the patriarchal society. 

I love to read that kind of novels, some poetry authors, like Benedetti, Roque Dalton and Gioconda Belli, but also I like a lot the  books about economic policy, history, sociology and geography.

The last book I have read is "Geografía de Pájaros. Chile Central". I really recommend this book if you like birds, it is really beautiful, and teaches you how to recognize and find a lot of them. It was a gift from my boyfriend in our anniversary, and it was so exciting because I wanted a book like this one for a long time, so now that I have it, I can't stop reading it, all I want is that the Covid die, so I can go with my baby and my boyfriend to recognize all the birds, or "cocos" like my baby says. 

 

Post 8 >> A Subject You've enjoyed studyng this semester

Hi! As you know, when I had my baby I left the university for one semester. So now I have subjects from different years. My favorite is Quaternary Geomorphology. This subject explains how the weather as we know it today, the sea level, and the sedimentary structures have their explanation in the quaternary period. So in classes the main contents that we have seen are: what is the Quaternary Period and his characteristics; the sedimentology or how the process of erosion, transport and deposition of sediments give rise to the sedimentary structures that we see today; and now we are seeing alluvial and gravitational systems. 

My professor is very good, and his methodology too. So he show us a lot of photographs and videos to explain us everything, and this is great now that we can not go to field trips, sometimes he use Google Earth to show us places, and complement this with the analysis of photographs. This is a subject that correspond to the fourth semester really, so this is like the repetition and there are just a few student so this also helps to the learning process.     

I love this subject because is very interesting, and also is important to be able to prevent nature risks and protect the environment. 

Post 7. My bucket list

Hi! Today I'm going to talk about my bucket list. I think that some activities that I would include are:

finish my college career, buy a house with a big backyard, take a postgraduate degree in Europe, go with my baby to the sea, learn more about birds, travel all across South America and go to a scape room. 

Of course there is a lot of things that I already crossed out of my bucket list, like plant a tree, camp with my sisters, my boyfriend, my baby and my brothers in law, travel with my boyfriend, adopting a dog, do volunteer work, etc. 

The most part of the activities on my bucket list I wish I could make them true with mi boyfriend and my dear son. But there is a lot too that I would like to do alone, I think it's so important to do that, and learn to be with ourselves  and put objectives in our life. So I think that my bucket list is not finished, I would like to never stop dreaming and imagine things that I could do and work to make them true. 

Post 6. A Person on my field that I admire

Hi! Today I'm going to talk about Gladys Armijo Zúñiga. She was a teacher of History and Geography and doctor in Geography. She was a director of the Geography departament of our University. She pass away in february, 2008 aged 67. 

I knew about her when I studied in Pedagógico, there my teachers were her disciples. I became very close to some of them and had a lot of long conversations about Gladys and the ideas that she defended.

 

The first text that I read of her was "Antagonismos y Contradicciones en la Nueva Ruralidad del Campo de la Región Metropolitana de Santiago". Here she explains how the neoliberalism has change the dynamics in the field, how the farmers become proletarians or another working methods, like the women who started to work as temporary workers in agriculture activities. 

She is really a powerful example of ethic in the academy, what I like more of her work is how she always put the focus of her investigations in the Space full of significances, and not like an abstraction. 

I really think that her work should be more recognized, but the academy is very full of egos and sexism. So my invitation is to read her and follow her example, making our work as geographers with dedication and ethic. 

Post 5. A Photograph you like

Hi! Today I'm going to talk about my favorite photograph. 

I know it was taken with a terrible camera and also the light is terrible, but this is one of the last pictures with my grandma. I don't remember who tooked it, maybe one of my sisters, but was in February, 2015, in el Tabo, Chile. 

My Grandma's name was Balsamina, like the flowers, but we called her "Lela". She was like a fairytale grandmother and a brave woman. She left her abusive husband with two kids and pregnant in tough times for women, and she also loved the ocean.

This was in the afternoon, and a cold wind started, so I lent her my scarf for cover her. That day I went with her to dip our feet in the sea, and suddenly she told me longingly and with tears in her eyes "This is the last time that I'm going to see the sea". I hold her hand and told her that we already have planned the next year vacations in a house with ramps for her wheelchair and I promised to her that we will be there next year seeing the waves. She just look at me and smile. 

She was right, she pass away just on February, 2016, just one week before the vacations. 

We all loved to her so much, and still loving her, I miss her every day with her brights eyes. When I got pregnant always dreamed about her, she would have been so happy with her great- grandson.  She is my role model, I wish I could have just some more minutes for lie down with her, but I will always remember her with her sweet smile. 

Post 4 "Tv shows and series"

I really love series and Tv shows. I have had a lot of favorites series like Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, La Casa de Papel, etc. Right now I love RuPaul Drag Race, I just finshed season 10, and now I have to see the All Star's seasons 3 and 4. What I love more about the drag race is the competitors. Some of them have very shocking life stories, I think that see this TV shows help us to know how hard is the life when you are not in the mold that this society imposes. I really hope that this  midsets change and that we all could walk free and not be afraid for the streets for just being who we are. I also love too see how them makes her clothes and make up. 

Nevertheless, I think that my favorite serie of all times is How I Met your Mother. It's so funny and I love it. I have saw this series like a hundred times. I am not a fan of the end, but there are a million of things in the storie that make me forget it.

I really recomend How I Met Your Mother for this days when we need to escape a little for reality, but now is only in Amazon. So if you only have Netflix I recomend for laughing Brooyn Nine-Nine. If you don't have neither, Malcolm in the middle Is also very funny .  

I would like to see Vis a Vis, but the chapters are so long, so I just have seen 2 of them making pauses when my baby sleep.

Post 3 My favourite piece of technology

Hi! Today we have to talke about our favourite piece of technology. It's really hard for me to choose one, at first I thought about television, becouse I love soap operas, also we have Netflix on tv, and we love to see RuPaul's Drag Race. Nevertheless, I think that this is becouse the quarantine, before covid 19, I did not see a lot of tv like I do now.

So, if I think about my life before covid, I believe that my cell phone is my favourite piece just because it allows me to be in contact with my baby, his paternal grandmother took care of him when I went to the university and for me was very hard and sad, so the possibility of get in contact with them was very important for me. Also I used it for the long way home, I listened to the music and then I felt the time run faster.
The first time I had a cell phone was becouse I went a school far away from home, so my aunt give me one to be on touch, the fisrt time that I received a call I was terrified becouse I thought something went wrong with my leg, like Parkinson or something.

Nowadays I don't use it very much becouse when I'm not in classes I'm taking care of my son, and I don't want that he become in a technology addict. But when he sleep, or playing with someone else I love to see Instagram and Youtube videos. Also I talk with my mom who is staying in her work in Las Condes because Covid and with my sister who lives in Los Ángeles.

Sometimes my cell phone become in the moment with my own, now that I am a mom, so my life without it will be different, but would not be the end of the world to me, I could find another thing to do now, but without it in my normal life I would probably feel very anxious about being far from my baby and don't know if everything is ok.
